Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium carrot, diced

1 stalk celery, diced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 cup beef broth

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 lb (450g) pasta (pennne or fettuccine)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet or saucepan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables soften and the onion becomes translucent.

Brown the Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef to the skillet, and break it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add the Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.

Simmer the Ragu: Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavors meld together. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Cook the Pasta: While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked pasta directly into the sauce, tossing to coat. If the mixture seems too thick, add reserved pasta water little by little until desired consistency is reached.

Serve: Plate the Beef Ragu Pasta, and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for an aromatic finish.
