Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of ham (thinly sliced)

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs (beaten)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce:

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken:

    - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

      - Using a meat mallet, pound each chicken breast to about 1/2 inch thickness. This helps in even cooking and makes rolling easier.

        Assemble the Cordon Bleu:

          - Place a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast. Roll the chicken tightly, starting from the thicker end, and secure it with toothpicks.

            Coat the Chicken:

              - Set up a breading station: Place flour mixed with garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper in one plate, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third plate.

                - Dredge each chicken roll in the flour, then dip it into the eggs, and finally roll it in the breadcrumbs until well-coated.

                  Cook the Chicken:

                    - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

                      - Once hot, carefully add the chicken rolls, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

                        - Transfer the chicken to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).

Make the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce:

                            - While the chicken is baking, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

                              - Add the flour and whisk constantly for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

                                - Gradually add heavy cream while whisking to avoid lumps.

                                  - Stir in the shredded Swiss cheese and Dijon mustard, and continue to stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Once the chicken is cooked, remove toothpicks and slice each roll into rounds for presentation.

                                        - Drizzle the creamy Swiss cheese sauce over the chicken and garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
