Ingredients

1 pound ground chicken

1 cup fresh spinach, chopped

1 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

4 whole wheat burger buns

Lettuce leaves, for serving

Tomato slices, for serving

Avocado slices (optional), for serving

Olive oil, for frying

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar, breadcrumbs, green onions, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, approximately 1 inch thick.

Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken patties to the skillet. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and they are golden brown.

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of white cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese.

Toast the whole wheat burger buns lightly on a separate skillet or in a toaster.

Assemble the burgers by placing a chicken patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, and avocado slices, if desired. Place the top half of the bun over the filling.

Serve hot with your favorite sides, like sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
